This subject is provided in recognition of students' full and compliant participation in an International Short Term Program.

Programs will comprise 120-140 hours learning in a cultural and educational program in an international setting involving students engaging in studies of culture, language, history, art, etc. with visits to sites of cultural and educational significance, and intercultural engagement with local people. These activities may take place within the context of a professional work placement. However, workplace placements, in this subject, do not contribute to professional accreditation hours.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Pre-departure orientation to international partner institutions and personnel
  • Intercultural social activity
  • Studies of culture: through one or more of history, language, art, music, food, dance, customs, communications and professional experiences
  • Visits to sites of historical, cultural, national and local significance
  • Post-program debriefing to enhance learning outcomes
  • Keeping a record of experiences and studies

Residential School

This subject contains a 1 day Compulsory Residential School.

This is an orientation day in which students are provided with specific details of the International Short Term Program, travel arrangements, cultural orientation, language, professional opportunities and requirements, and general conditions of participation.

The orientation day is an opportunity for students to meet with each other, and participating staff.
