This subject explores the major political, social, economic and intellectual developments in world history in the period 1914-45. Topics covered include total war, the Russian Revolution and Soviet Russia, the rise of fascism, Nazi Germany and the Holocaust, modernism and the arts, the Great Depression, and anti-colonialism and the decline of imperialism. The subject will also examine a number of methodological issues important to history such as the nature of oral history, the relationship between documentary filmmaking and history, and the nature and function of primary source material.
