Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • Be able to demonstrate advanced knowledge of technical and theory aspects of the nominated topic area;
  • Be able to conduct data collection, scientific analysis and draw conclusions about the nominated topic within a broad area of land, water and climate;
  • Be able to plan and conduct field study and desktop analysis;
  • Be able to use specific equipment and computer models for investigation and simulation;
  • Be capable of writing technical reports.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:

Depending on the student's area of interest, they will be assigned any two of the following topics after consultation with the subject coordinator: Application of computer models in rainfall-runoff simulation; Application of computer models like CSIRO's Swagman to investigate impacts of irrigation practices on land and groundwater; Management of soil and groundwater salinity; Water demand management within a given river catchment; Water use efficiency, water productivity and climate; Application of geophysical investigation techniques; Relationship between climate variability and river flows; Application of GIS and RS in water resources management. Further topics may be added by the subject coordinator to meet the emerging needs.
