This subject provides a detailed introduction to the major practices necessary to establish an effective and efficient record keeping and archiving environment. The subject looks at the technical, managerial and policy infrastructure necessary to ensure an effective records and archives service is built and maintained. Topics covered include classification systems, appraisal tools and approaches, disposal practices, technology and record keeping systems and long term preservation, finally reviewing the evolving approach to access engendered by the move to an open, digital environment.
