INF546 Information Organisations: From Management to Leadership (8)

In this subject students are introduced to the foundational knowledge and theory of leadership and management as they apply to  the information professions. This foundational knowledge and theory  will include exploration of digital networks, organisations and their structure, the functions of management, exploring the difference between leadership and management, and informational contexts.  This foundational knowledge and theory will be used to reflect on the practice of management and leadership  with special reference to information organisations.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to demonstrate understanding of the body of literature introducing the concepts and theories of management and leadership
  • be able to demonstrate they can distinguish between the concepts of management and leadership, and analyse them critically
  • be able to reflect upon, and synthesise, complex information, problems and theories, and apply them in practice
  • be able to demonstrate a complex and in-depth understanding of the nature of digital networks and;
  • be able to demonstrate they can contextualise the practice of leadership and management in information organisations.
