This subject focuses on the role of leadership and leaders towards achieving social impact level change and outcomes. Examining the tension between an organisations purpose and its profit drivers, students will explore questions like: How does our organisation impact society and how should it impact society? Is our growth sustainable and responsive in a changing world? What are strategies for creating positive societal impact? This subject will investigate current challenges in achieving social benefit, and explore the emerging ideas around collective leadership.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to identify, critically analyse and discuss leadership that impacts both organisational performance as well as broader social outcomes across private, public and non-profit contexts;
  • be able to effectively articulate and discuss complex challenges in achieving social impact;
  • be able to research and apply established theories to your developing theoretical framework for the practice of leadership in the face of adaptive challenges;
  • be able to interpret and transmit different ways of framing leadership in the context of social impact; and
  • be able to put into practice learning about leadership for social impact and identify opportunities to practice social impact leadership.
