This subject is designed for students who enter university without a strong background in mathematics and who need to raise their knowledge and skills in mathematics to a higher standard.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to successfully apply mathematical skills and processes across a wide range of topic areas;
  • be able to communicate mathematical ideas and reasoning clearly and effectively using symbols, numbers, words, diagrams and graphs;
  • be able to describe and model patterns in mathematical terms;
  • be able to construct and use diagrams to solve mathematical problems;
  • be able to make and justify informed decisions about financial situations based on appropriate models;
  • be able to solve problems involving uncertainty using the basic principles of probability;
  • be able to demonstrate the purposes and functions of mathematics in the community.
