PHT115 Introduction to Analogue Photography (8)

This subject provides students with the basic principles of analogue photography, including a variety of analogue photographic practices and processes, a history of analogue photography, lighting considerations, use of photographic accessories and printing techniques. Students are introduced to the fundamentals of critical analysis, including basic interpretation of meaning in photographic imagery, together with aspects of composition and aesthetics. Sustainability principles in analogue photographic processes are also covered including workplace health and safety for varying photographic environments.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to demonstrate the fundamentals of representation, aesthetics and meaning in photographic imagery;
  • be able to contribute to critical discussions regarding both their own & peers' work;
  • be able to proficiently prepare photographic work for presentation in a range of analogue formats;
  • be able to operate independently in a range of photographic environments; and
  • be able to demonstrate the principles and workings of selected analogue photographic processes.

On campus students at Wagga Wagga will be required to access University provided photographic darkroom Facilities to complete assessment tasks.
