REC302 Interpretive Guiding Management in Ecotourism (8)

This subject deals with the theory, practice and management of guiding for ecotourism, adventure tourism and related recreation activities. It builds on existing knowledge of interpretation, environmental education and outdoor recreation to focus on personal heritage and environmental interpretation techniques and interpersonal communication.The subject has no residential school. On completion, students are able to plan and deliver effective interpretive guided activities and programs.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • have an in-depth understanding of the roles of an interpretive guide
  • have the ability to verbally present clear, coherent and independent exposition of knowledge in an entertaining way to a variety of audiences
  • the ability to apply a range of cognitive and technical skills to plan design and deliver an effective interpretive guided activity and interpretive guided programs
  • have the ability to use initiative, imagination, judgement and problem solving skills to create effective interpretive guided activities and programs
