THL427 Theology Research Project (8)

The principal purpose of this subject is to provide students intending to progress beyond the Graduate Diploma of Theology with an experience in guided research through either a project or a major essay. As a result, enrolment in this subject requires the approval of the Subject coordinator. The subject allows for the exploration of an approved topic in a chosen theological subdiscipline, to be determined in consultation with the Subject coordinator.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to discuss critically issues in a chosen theological subdiscipline arising from the investigation of an approved research topic or through an individual project
  • be able to reflect critically on the literature relevant to their research question
  • be able to demonstrate consultative and dialogical skills in developing and exploring an appropriate research project
  • be able to demonstrate independent research, organisational and written communication skills through the preparation and presentation of a substantial research essay or project in a select theological field

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • In consultation with a supervisor, students select an appropriate program of reading, research project design and writing in a discrete theological field
  • Guided reading
  • Critical analysis of relevant texts
  • Regular consultation between student and supervisor
  • Submission of a substantial research project or essay
