THM207 Drama and Theatre for Young People (8)

The theory and practice of adults conducting drama workshops with, and performing for, young people is considered in light of scripts, scenarios and/or selected educational themes. The artistic and educational uses of theatre for young people are developed through research, dramaturgical analysis, play-building and rehearsal. This subject culminates in a series of performances for schools throughout the Central West region.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to Identify and discuss the foundations of theatre for young people nationally and internationally
  • be able to create drama workshops for young people
  • be able to develop and perform an original production for regional primary and secondary school audiences

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Evaluate and analyse Drama and Theatre for Young People from a cultural and educational perspective
  • Examine the professional field including key organisations and practitioners
  • How to create and produce an age-appropriate drama workshop and performance for young people
