This subject introduces students to the history and cultural impact of experimental and abstract screen media, including non-narrative structures, non-representational subjects, and experimentation within materials, form, process and narrative functions. The influence of creative, industrial and social movements on the emergence of experimental film will be covered. Through theory and practical experiments students will explore non-traditional film practices and moving image works made for exhibition in a gallery context.
