This subject introduces the core business approaches and strategies to screen producing. It focuses on the role of a screen and media content producer as a creative collaborator who builds and oversees a screen media production. The subject also offers an overview of approaches to funding, distribution and marketing in divergent screen industries.  The subject explores skills and aesthetics of screen producing, production development, budgets, content distribution and licencing, nationally and globally.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to analyse pre-production, production and post-production processes of a screen media project;
  • be able to demonstrate skills in the production and distribution of screen media content;
  • be able to analyse and apply different contemporary practices undertaken by screen producers;
  • be able to construct an independent screen project with identified business strategies;
  • be able to engage current discourse on the business diversity of screen producing; and
  • be able to analyse and evaluate data and information relevant to screen project production.

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Development of screen concepts towards a project proposal
  • Pre-production of a screen project
  • Content generation for multiplatform media
  • Production management related to screen and multiplatform producing
  • Task management in multiplatform production
  • Human resource planning: cast and crew management approaches
  • An Introduction to Post-production: requirements and industry practices
  • Entrepreneurial business strategies: crowd sourcing, and other financial sourcing
  • Budgeting and project oversight: strategies and contingencies
  • Distribution, licencing and marketing skills applied to screen content: nationally and globally
