VPA222 Screen Drama Production (8)

This subject introduces students to techniques and issues specific to sitcom and drama produced in a television studio, independent film house and/or outside broadcast environment. The subject offers the student advanced instruction in creating and producing dramatic productions with an emphasis on the generation of independent film and/or collaborative creative works for film, television or online broadcast. Students will undertake projects which involve single-camera and multi-camera production in both a studio environment and on location from concept to on-screen realisation.

Enrolment Restrictions

Students must have completed TVP105 Studio Television before enrolling in this subject. A real Occupational Health and Safety risk exists for students who do not have the requisite studio-work knowledge.

Subject Relationships

TVP105 Due to necessary minimum WH&S knowledge for studio film/television students must have undertaken TVP105 before taking this subject as a real risk to health and safety exists.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to undertake the design and pre-production planning process for hybrid single and multi-camera drama for broadcast;
  • be able to demonstrate and execute a thorough site WH&S/OH&S examination and implement a suitable Risk Management plan;
  • be able to describe and apply the requisite technology and resources to produce single and multi-camera sitcom dramas and/or outside broadcasts;
  • be able to produce hybrid screen media productions within sitcom and drama genres;
  • be able to organise and liaise with authorities and stakeholders and source required permissions; and
  • be able to independently and collaboratively produce new screen content.

Special Resources

This subject utilises the Charles Sturt University Outside Broadcast Facility and will include situated learning experiences on client generated projects that may require short-term student travel. Where travel is required this is typically facilitated through university busses or other transport with costs met from the production budget (typically sourced externally).
