This is the core study unit for post-graduate training in veterinary herd and flock consultancy. The Subject will cover a range of areas involved in whole farm consultancy, including the whole farm approach, herd / flock health investigations, working in groups, making consultancy pay, consultancy services and critical reviewing.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to apply a whole farm approach to investigation of farm problems
  • be able to identify the interactions which will affect the outcomes for an investigation or problem
  • be able to initiate a herd/flock investigation as part of a whole farm investigation
  • be able to critically review scientific information
  • be able to evaluate the various services offered as part of on-farm consultancy and formulate appropriate remuneration packages

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Whole farm Management and Consultancy Services understanding farm dynamics;  
  • Herd / flock health investigations, working in groups, making consultancy pay;
  • Critical reviewing of literature, including basic statistics
