Admission Criteria

CSU Admission Policy

There are two possible entry points to the Master of Teaching (Secondary):

* Completion of an undergraduate degree that includes the equivalent of three-quarters of a year of discipline study relating to the applicants intended teaching area, usually comprising sequential discipline study taken over three years.  In most programs, this equates to six subjects, with no more than two subjects at first year level and no fewer than two subjects at third year level. A Grade Point Average of 4 or above must have been attained in applicants undergraduate studies.

* Entry to the Master of Teaching (Secondary) through the Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) degree; this option is offered to those whose prior studies do not meet the NESA requirements for their intended teaching area(s), as specified above, and who need to do additional subjects.  On the completion of the first (full-time) year of study (8 subjects) for the Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary), students can apply to enter the Master of Teaching Secondary;  to be eligible, students must have attained a Grade Point Average of 4 in their undergraduate degree or in their first year of study (8 subjects) for the Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary).

English Language Proficiency Entry Requirements for Teacher Education Preparation Programs
All applicants who do not meet the Standard CSU English Language Proficiency Requirements must demonstrate proficiency by completing an Academic IELTS (or equivalent) with an overall score of 7.5 (with no score below 7 in reading and writing, and a score of no less than 8 in speaking and listening) - see CSU Concordance Tables for accepted equivalent measures.

NOTE: Please refer to relevant National or State employing bodies for their English language proficiency requirements when seeking employment.

Credit

CSU Credit Policy

Students who do not meet NESA requirements for discipline content subjects will be offered a place in the Bachelor of Teaching
(Secondary) where they can complete the discipline content subjects as required by NESA http://www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au/great-teaching-inspiredlearning/. Once students have completed the NESA requirements within the Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) they can apply for entry to the Master of Teaching (Secondary). Students must have attained a Credit Grade Point Average (GPA 4) in their undergraduate degree or in their first year of study for the Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary).

In order for a student to gain credit for a professional experience, the applicant must demonstrate to the Director, Professional
Experience Unit, that the completed task was indeed equivalent to a practicum, that is, the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) had
provided the student with an opportunity to satisfy the requirements of a typical practicum. Typically, that would require the pre-service
teacher to demonstrate that she/he has developed the skills, knowledge and understanding of the role of a teacher through:

- systematic observation of colleague's teaching and professional dialogue about such observations;
- teaching in a classroom in a collaborative role with an experienced colleague;
- the development of structured teaching and learning materials that are systematically evaluated;
- the development of a professional portfolio;
- discussion of personal teacher development with a supervising colleague on a regular basis;
- engagement in professional dialogue with independent (university) personnel;
- formal assessment of teaching competence by a supervising teacher.

Any student who is conditionally employed within a secondary school setting and is successful in gaining Professional Experience
Credit then this credit will only apply to EPT441 Professional Experience 1. It is a course requirement that students must
complete professional experience in two diverse settings, as such, the student must then complete EPT442 Professional Experience 2
practicum requirements at a different school setting.

Any student who completed professional experience as part of another incomplete degree may apply to have that professional
experience recognised as equivalent in the same manner that they would apply for credit for other subjects.

Graduation Requirement

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 128 points.
