ACT127 Integrative Practices (8)

In this subject, students are provided with a transdisciplinary approach to actor training. In order to create fully rounded artists, students are exposed to a variety of methods and practices of integrating voice, movement, acting and contemporary performance practices. This subject also exposes students to a wide variety of texts and styles; it will not only deal with the fundamentals of voice and body synergy, it will enable the student to grow and develop physical and vocal awareness through concentration, focus, control and energy. Emphasis will be on the freeing of the natural, individual voice and exploring individuals heightened movement potential while consolidating the body and the voice.

Assumed Knowledge

It is assumed that students will have undertaken some fundamental acting or performance based learning prior to undertaking this subject equivalent to ACT120 and/or ACT101.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to describe and apply a synthesis of physio-vocal elements, character and acting;
  • be able to demonstrate an awareness of psychological and physical actions, and how they integrate with character and imagination;
  • be able to identify the various demands required to perform a range of diverse texts from different eras, genres and styles;
  • be able to integrate body, voice and text and place various texts in their socio-historical context; and
  • be able to work effectively and cooperatively in groups and take direction.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • An overview of the Stanislavsky system
  • Psychological and physical actions
  • Integration of movement and voice practices (physiovocality)
  • Physiovocal approaches to text and character
  • Integration of diverse performance practices
  • Advanced performance skills
