This subject has been developed in conjunction with the Cooperative Research Centre for Plant-based Management of Dryland Salinity. It develops the essential practical skills and knowledge involved with the establishment and management of viable agroforestry enterprises that assist to mitigate salinity. The subject will be delivered with a combined online and DVD component together with a three day residential school.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to read the landscape for land capability;
  • be able to prepare physical and financial plans of agroforestry projects;
  • be able to identify useful agroforestry species and know where to use them;
  • be able to analyse and interpret the ecological and economic principles of agroforestry systems;
  • be able to analyse and interpret the balance between the production and environmental values;
  • be able to distil information regarding the institutions involved with the funding, implementation and research in agroforestry in Australia; and
  • be able to plan and establish a protocol for the establishment of a viable agroforestry enterprise.
