ASC517 Master's Research Project Design (16)

In this subject students will undertake a critical review of the literature, identifying any existing gap(s) in knowledge. Using this information students will then develop a research plan/funding proposal to address this gap in knowledge. The context of the literature reviewed may be as broad or as focused as is required to meet the student's career plans.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge in the area of specialisation;
  • be able to undertake a systematic and critical review of the literature in the area of specialisation;
  • be able to define and delimit one research question or hypothesis within the context of the literature in the area of specialisation; and
  • be able to design a research project, including the appropriate application of research methodologies, and articulate this design in a research funding application.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Students select a research topic, conduct a critical review of the literature and prepare a funding application (includes research proposal) under the guidance of the supervisor(s), which is relevant to the discipline.
