In addition to looking at medical laboratory sciences from a single discipline, this subject encourages integration at an advanced level, utilizing the knowledge from different disciplines into one broad discipline, with reference to selected disease(s). This is done by e.g. analysing how the different disciplines are involved in management of particular disease(s). Technology is dynamic and latest technology is constantly added into healthcare and there also are re-emerging and new diseases to contend with. The assignments afford the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge and to evaluate these, in medical laboratory sciences. Professionalism, registration and certification are topics and issues that constantly change and/or are updated. This subject therefore allows the student to keep abreast and to evaluate current issues in medical laboratory medicine. After completing this subject, a student has a deeper and wider understanding of integrated medical laboratory sciences that is useful in specialist and routine medical laboratory sciences and in research. Such knowledge is important in teaching, management and research. It is assumed that a student in this subject works or has worked in medical laboratory sciences or studied medical laboratory science or equivalent. Students from other disciplines are enrolled at the discretion of the Course Director.
