The subject, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Cultural Education Program, has been designed to facilitate opportunities for students in the Bachelor and Master of Teaching degrees to develop respectful relationships with their local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community through a minimum of 15 hours of participation in a placement in a local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community organisation or an authorised cultural immersion program.
The local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community cultural education experience is part of the cultural competence program embedded within the degree and allows for authentic engagement with the community to broaden students understanding of issues confronting the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and to further understand the role of education in achieving reconciliation and improving educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Students can enrol in EEB435 or EEB505 in the same session as EEB443 however, students should complete the subject EEB435 or EEB505 before commencing the 15 hour community education placement.
