The subject has been designed to allow students to explore Indigenous Australian Education and its benefits in primary and secondary educational settings. As students begin to critically reflect upon the cultures, histories and contemporary contexts of Indigenous Australia, they will develop a greater awareness of Indigenous Australian socio-cultural and socio-political contexts, and advance their own understanding of the dynamics of Indigenous values, worldviews and identities. Furthermore, they will encounter a diverse range of pedagogies and strategies that can bring Indigenous Australian perspectives and approaches into the classroom, orientate students towards Indigenous Australian cultures, histories and contexts and support Indigenous Australian students more effectively. They will have the opportunity to utilise their pedagogical understandings to investigate and reflect on current Indigenous Australian issues and anti-racism education policies, programs and services, evaluating their role in contributing to student outcomes, equity and quality within the primary or secondary education contexts.
