This subject focuses on and explores significant concepts and developments in the study and practice of education in the 21st century. This subject is situated around the aims and purposes of education and the channels where contemporary educational thought influences or affects educational practice. The subject is divided into two sections and will start with an anthology of readings on contemporary educational ideas and some of the key impacts on educational development where students will be able to critically evaluate existing knowledge and scholarship and identify theoretical perspectives in current practice. One of the key educational developments is the impact of digitisation and in the second half of this subject students will explore the impact of digital technology for education incorporating their understanding of current theoretical perspectives. Students will engage with concepts such as creativity, ubiquity and sharing and will critically explore the import of these notions on emerging educational practice.
