EMA441 Curriculum Method 1: Visual Art (8)

In this subject students develop a foundational understanding of secondary visual arts education, Years 7-12. The subject begins with an examination of visual arts as a discipline and the self as learner. From this foundation the subject then addresses understandings of learning in visual arts, local and global curriculum, the nature of visual arts teaching in schools and sites of learning beyond the classroom. Through engagement with these topics students will develop an understanding of approaches to visual arts education, theories and practice with a focus on how to engage students in the secondary years in meaningful, rigorous and purposeful learning. Forms of assessment include digital storytelling, curriculum responses and the development of curriculum planning documents and resources. Formal assessment focuses on the development and expression of knowledge in relation to visual arts education and the application of developing knowledge and skills to authentic practice- based tasks.
