EMS207 Science and Technology Curriculum Studies (8)

Students work collaboratively in a professional project-based learning environment in designing and developing a Science & Technology program of work for pupils in Years K-6 that employs investigative pedagogies. Students will demonstrate knowledge of learning theory, lesson and unit design and assessment of, and for, learning to develop the sequence of learning activities that use pedagogies afforded by scientific and educational technologies. Students learn how to incorporate content (discipline and curriculum), Pedagogical Content Knowledge and Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge, other key learning areas, the 5Es Learning Cycle and a variety of instructional strategies into a program of work.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to develop a Science and Technology program of work that develops pupils' knowledge and understanding, skills, and values and attitudes which map to a relevant Stage of the NSW Science and Technology K-6 Syllabus and/or relevant State-based syllabuses;
  • be able to identify and use pupils' alternative conceptions to design learning sequences that represent the content in varying ways;
  • be able to employ a range of instructional and collaborative learning strategies within the 5Es learning cycle;
  • be able to incorporate into learning experiences the skills of working scientifically, working technologically and working collaboratively;
  • be able to demonstrate skills in the use of technology for gathering and processing data and evidence, as educational tools and for communicating;
  • be able to use a range of diagnostic, formative and summative assessment when programming for science and technology; and,
  • be able to apply their understandings of content (discipline and curriculum) when programming for science and technology.
