This subject explores science education as a medium for the development of adolescent learning in secondary schools. Years 7-10 syllabi are contextualised within The Australian Curriculum framework. Curriculum materials and research in science education are also explored which provides the context for a developmental framework for science education. The subject promotes skills in selecting, planning and implementing lessons and teaching sequences within a constructivist learning model. These skills are linked to the current secondary curriculum documents. An understanding of the nature of science, diverse learners, safety issues and the application of information and communication technologies in science teaching are explored.
