EMV501 The Adult and Vocational Education System in Australia (8)

Quality training and assessment requires practitioners to have a thorough understanding of the Australian Vocational Education system. This subject critically examines the theoretical, regulatory, and practical factors that influence training. Needs assessment, learning and assessment design, evaluation of training, and a range of other current issues are addressed at a critical level. This subject assumes background knowledge of content covered in the TAE Certificate IV in Training & Assessment and experience working within the context of Australian Qualifications Framework Training Packages.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • Critically analyse theoretical, regulatory, and practical factors that influence training within the Australian VET sector;
  • Effectively use Training Packages (and other curricular structures) effectively to design, implement and evaluate specific programs which meet the qualification rules and the training needs of different groups of students;
  • Plan, lead and conduct a strategic needs analysis and utilise this information in developing training programs;
  • Design effective learning plans, including appropriate strategies and tools, and be able to advise others in regard to the design of effective learning;
  • Design effective assessment pathways, including assessment plans, strategies and tools, and be able to advise others in regard to assessment and recognition;
  • Plan and design effective evaluation of training and/or assessment programs within a specific context; and
  • Contextualise current and evolving directions of training and assessment within Australian organisational contexts, including emerging best practices.
