Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be familiar with state and federal environmental legislation;
  • understand the role of regulatory bodies in pollution control and waste management;
  • be familiar with the development application process for a food processing facility;
  • appreciate the requirements of a statement of environmental effects;
  • be able to conduct a waste audit of a food processing facility;
  • be familiar with the major forms of waste management techniques used for both liquid and solid wastes;
  • be able to use basic techniques for the assessment of biological and chemical pollution;
  • has an appreciation of bioefficiency and cleaner production issues
