This subject will explore the concept and practice of information literacy, and the issues related to it across education, workplace and everyday contexts. Students will be encouraged to consider information literacy from a number of perspectives. They will reflect on how information literacy can be applied in relation to information practice within their specific information environments.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

  • be able to analyse the issues that affect the practice of information literacy in a range of settings;
  • show that they understand and evaluate the empirical literature related to information literacy;
  • be able to articulate the importance of information literacy education across all sectors;
  • be able to develop an information literacy plan that is relevant to a specific setting studied; and
  • be able to reflect on their information literacy practice.
