JRN225 The Specialist Reporter (8)

This subject extends students story gathering, writing and investigative skills from their application in general news storytelling to the preparation and presentation of stories using specialist content. Students develop specialisations (including rounds), generate and frame stories within their specialist areas, and convert specialist knowledge into information accessible to general audiences.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to identify and discuss the factors underlying the rising importance of specialist reporting;
  • be able to implement investigative and reporting specialties including rounds;
  • be able to evaluate and apply news values in framing stories using specialist content;
  • be able to process specialist content for specialist and general audiences; and
  • be able to produce and publish complex stories for a variety of media platforms.
