This subject examines the challenges facing investigation in Australia today from a strategic perspective. It explores the management and criminological research literature with a view to understanding the kinds of strategic initiatives that are required to enhance investigation and investigation management. The subject will provide the student with a critical understanding of each of these issues.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to think critically about the transformation that needs to occur in management thinking and practice in relation to strategic initiatives and policy developments in criminal and administrative investigation
  • be able to think critically about the role that the investigation manager has to play in the policy development process and in guiding strategic directions in investigation
  • be able to demonstrate an appreciation for evaluating and applying management theory and models to the investigation environment in Australia
  • be able to review, analyse and devise strategic initiatives based on the management and criminological research to enhance the quality of investigation management practice
