The subject will introduce students to key aspects of analysis, principles and methods of operating and managing in the context of multi agency investigations.  The subject has strategic and operational dimensions, focused on best practices and specific challenges faced by professionals and organisations collaborating under multi-agency investigations agreements, in law enforcement, regulatory and private sector environments.

Assumed Knowledge

Students in this subject should be working in a law enforcement, emergency service or security organisation or one that is very similar.  Students working at any level of management will be able to apply their knowledge and experience of the organisation to the assessment tasks in the subject.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • Be able to review, analyse, consolidate and synthesise diverse compliance, regulatory, accountability issues arising in multi agency investigation environments
  • Be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of the operating dynamics in complex multi agency investigations
  • Be able to apply established and contemporary operational management theories in multi agency settings
  • Be able to demonstrate understanding and knowledge of competing policies and procedures followed by partners and stake holders in a collaborative investigation arena
  • Be able to think critically about the ethical dimensions of task forces and other multi agency frameworks and how these impact on processes and procedures
  • Be able to critically evaluate trends, professional practices, key challenges and specific risks to individual organisations emerging in multi agency investigations environments and ways these might be optimised or mitigated

  • Designing and implementing comprehensive governance and accountability frameworks for multi agency investigations
  • Trends and developments in approaches to national and international multi agency investigations
  • The efficacy and effectiveness of multi agency approaches to investigations
  • Managing diverse legal, regulatory and compliance challenges
  • Managing contestable policies, priorities and operational and strategic objectives
  • Effective use and dissemination of information and evidence obtained under different legal regimes
