MGT538 Quality and Operational Management in Sport (8)

A study of general sport product development, including sport event management. Covers basic concepts in quality, operations, production, planning and control, and total quality management. Students also examine in depth the event management process, focusing on major events, including the construction of facilities, the bidding process and sport tourism. Assumed knowledge in this subject is equivalent to that covered in MGT501.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • understand basic concepts of operations and productions (capacity, scheduling, inventory, standards, control) total quality management.
  • understand and be able to use the event management process in sport.
  • examine the bidding process used by different countries for various major games and develop guidelines for implementation.
  • explore sport facility construction and be able to develop construction briefs.
  • understand sport tourism, and be able to apply concepts in the event management of major games.
