OMT520 Clinical Practicum in OMT (8)

This subject represents the Clinical component of the OMT course. Students will be required to apply the principles learnt in the course in a supervised clinical situation. This will examine the students approach to assessment, diagnosis and treatment and their ability to incorporate clinical reasoning.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • to apply the principles of OMT in a clinical environment through an understanding of:
  • the principles of the neuromusculoarticular system.
  • the principles and practice of manipulation
  • the integration of joint function with other components of the neuromusculoarticular system
  • the interrelationships of the postural mechanisms.
  • the clinical application of current evidencebased research influencing and underpinning the OMT philosophy.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:

- To reach a satisfactory level of competence through active participation in a supervised clinical placement(s) to a maximum of 240 hours, incorporating patient assessment, treatment, ongoing treatment planning, interaction with supervisory staff, other staff members and all necessary allied health staff deemed appropriate to the patients condition.
