PHC303 Evidence Based Practice (8)

In this subject, students are required to assess existing clinical guidelines and apply current scientific research evidence to improve clinical practices. This subject also enhances clinical decision-making processes through problem identification, development of information gathering strategies, evaluation of alternative approaches, contextualising research evidence, and evaluation of a course of action. The emphasis of this subject is on the importance of utilising the best evidence, based on current research literature, to engage in clinical decision-making in the field of paramedic and emergency care.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to describe the key concepts and key components of EBP
  • be able to comprehend pre-clinical subjects (anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology) to inform the decision making process in clinical practices.
  • be able to critique and apply quantitative and qualitative research evidence to improve clinical skills in paramedic practice settings
  • be able to employ problems-solving skills to enhance learning outcomes via planning, monitoring and evaluation
  • be able to analyse obstacles and facilitators of implementing EBP within organisations
  • be able to deliver optimum patient care through the best clincal practice guideline regarting to ethical and social responsibility in multicultural society
