Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • (a.) understand the interrelationship between water supply and plant growth
  • (b) understand surface and ground water hydrology
  • (c) select and design a basic irrigation and drainage systems and scheduling.
  • (d) understand the principles of land degradation and irrigation salinity due to inappropriate water management.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:

(a) Soil-Plant-Water Relationship : principle of root growth, infiltration pattern, intake curves for different irrigation methods. (b) Water resources, storage, reticulation and water quality. (c) Introduction to groundwater hydrology; dryland and irrigated soils. (d) Principles of different methods of irrigation and their effect on crop yield,salinity and water table. Irrigation Scheduling and Irrigation Farm Plan Drainage of agricultural land and waste management. Landforming procedures and effect on soil properties. Aquatic and Terrestrial ecosystem Irrigation and measurement equipment.
