PSY219 Psychology International Experience (8)

This subject has two main aims. The first is to increase the cultural awareness and sensitivity of students and to make them better global citizens. The second and more specific aim is to increase awareness of the impact of socio-cultural context on human behaviour and specifically its relationship to issues such as psychological development, interpersonal relationships and mental health. The major component of the subject is an overseas visit, organised through CSUGlobal, during which students may engage in activities such as visiting relevant local institutions, e.g. a psychiatric hospital, an orphanage etc, attending lectures by local academics, interacting with local people and learning about the local culture. Prior to the visit, students will be required to read, reflect on and discuss relevant papers relating to cross cultural psychology.
