Psychological Assessment requires an understanding of a broad range of concepts, including psychometric theory, statistical concepts, principles underlying assessment in general as well as specific tests, strengths and weaknesses of tests, and issues in the area of psychological assessment. This course will familiarise the student with these concepts, using both theoretical presentations and practical experience in administering selected psychometric instruments.

- An introduction to assessment which will examine the basic theoretical foundations and practical skills necessary to start performing supervised psychological assessments. - The principles of psychological measurement and the theory of test construction and interpretation (e.g., norms, reliability, validity, criterion keying, item analysis, theoretical foundations of test interpretation methods) - The assessment of intelligence, aptitude, achievement, attitude, personality and specific cognitive abilities in both children and adults. - The use of tests and test results within the psychological assessment process. - The strengths and weaknesses of psychological tests, their use in cross-cultural testing, and ethical issues pertinent to psychological testing and assessment
