Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • have a basic knowledge of the use of images in the modern world.
  • have a basic knowledge of human vision, visual limitations and applications of human image analysis in Medical Imaging.
  • be able to explain concepts concerning digital image quality in relation to the image processing equipment, in particular to the process of image digitisation.
  • understand basic principles and concepts underlying image manipulation, image storage, hard copy production and human review.
  • have some practical experience using a microprocessor based image digitisation system utilising software which allows image manipulation upon diagnostic image forms.
  • have reviewed the basic concepts of a series of current digital systems in use in Medical Imaging considering the state of the current technology and relevant current issues.
