SPA432 GIS 2: Geographic Information Science Applications (8)

This subject extends the study of Geographic Information Science (GIS) by developing skills in the complex modelling of spatial data, and it is assumed that students have basic GIS knowledge and experience. The practical component forms an integral part in developing specialist skills in GIS modelling. On completion of this subject students have the ability to make sound judgments regarding the appropriate use of spatial modelling, analysis of continuous surfaces, network analysis and raster analysis.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

  • be able to apply and explain terrain and watershed analysis techniques
  • be able to make use of published literature to evaluate spatial analysis techniques
  • be able to describe and implement a basic spatial analysis project
  • be able to describe the ethical implications of spatial data use
