ASH404 Honours Project/Dissertation 2 (16)

In this subject, students will complete and write up their planned Honours research project/dissertation under supervision. Students will develop a deeper understanding of the world of professional research by working through the process of reporting their research by writing and submitting a 15,000-20,000 word project report or dissertation for examination.

Enrolment Restrictions

This subject is only available to students who have met the admissions requirements for entry into the Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences (Honours) course and have completed ASH401 and ASH402.
It is expected that ASH403 will be either completed concurrently (by full-time students) or prior (by part-time students) to enrolment in ASH404.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to analyse and interpret data to address a research question;
  • be able to communicate the processes and findings of a project in written format;
  • be able to produce a dissertation according to a specific format;
  • be able to report on their research in a way that demonstrates potential capacity for independent future research;
  • be able to demonstrate the initiative and time management skills required to write a research dissertation; and
  • be able to detail how their work adhered to the ethical standards for the conduct of research.

  • Methods for disseminating research findings
  • Qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods data analyses
  • Drawing conclusions from qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods data
  • Identification of implications for practice
  • Writing and presentation of a dissertation for examination
