CCI506 Digital Media Practice (16)

Students undertake a practice-based exploration of emerging models of media creation, distribution and consumption and consider the impact of these models on existing communication and creative industries from an industry-specific perspective. Students research audiences and markets to develop a complex digital artefact of relevance to their professional practice and engage with the major controversies, issues, and ethics around social media in society. This subject encourages experimentation with digital media and introduces students to key concepts in project and product development.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to research, plan, develop and pitch a complex digital artefact of relevance to professional practice;
  • be able to critically reflect upon the role of social and digital media in society, including major ethical concerns;
  • be able to critically reflect on appropriate research and evaluation methodologies for defining and working with digital media audiences and users;
  • be able to examine the impact of emerging models for media creation, distribution and consumption upon existing media, communication, and creative industries; and
  • be able to demonstrate key project and product development principles in the design of a complex, experimental digital artefact.
