This subject allows students to explore: what is public relations, why we do it, and how we do it? This foundational subject introduces students to the theories, principles and practices of contemporary public relations. In this subject students explore the role of public relations in society, specialisations within this discipline, the skills required of practitioners and the components of a public relations strategy.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to demonstrate a fundamental knowledge of public relations and the relationship of public relations practice to other communication practices;
  • be able to identify and explain the key components of a public relations strategy and situate this within a best practice framework;
  • be able to recall and discuss the main theories informing public relations practice; and
  • be able to evaluate a public relations strategy.
