The subject covers foundational principles and concepts in communication research and methods, and techniques and analysis used to address contemporary industry research issues and problems. Students are required to plan, propose, implement and report a research project.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to explain and compare research concepts such as qualitative and quantitative, primary and secondary resources, ethics, reliability and validity;
  • be able to evaluate strengths and weaknesses in different methodological approaches for different communication research problems;
  • be able to propose, conduct and report a small research project;
  • be able to work effectively in a team;
  • be able to find and use academic resources to support independent original research; and
  • be able to examine the role of research in communication industries.
