This subject focuses on understanding the nature and enactment of leadership in the field of Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC). The notion of leadership is explored from global perspectives and critiqued for the Australian ECEC context. Emphasis is given to exploring a range of interpretations of effective leadership practice within current regulatory requirements. This learning is then applied to the opportunities and challenges of leading to ensure quality early childhood pedagogical practice, mentoring staff, and advocacy for children, staff and parents. The ability to be an advocate for the profession of early childhood educators will be explored along with leadership for the professional learning of staff.
