EEB424 Contexts of Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy in Adult and Vocational Education (8)

Through this subject, students will extend their knowledge and skills in the development of language, literacy, numeracy and digital literacy (LLND) capabilities in a variety of current contexts within theoretical frameworks. Students will evaluate the LLND needs of a particular cohort, examine a range of possible delivery settings, analyse the stated outcomes, select from a range of approaches and practices, and justify their preferences.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to analyse and determine the LLND demands of training in a specific context for a particular cohort using known frameworks;
  • be able to evaluate models of LLND provision with reference to a range of teaching and learning settings;
  • be able to discuss and compare the different purposes of provision of LLND capabilities, which may include vocational, preparatory, workforce development, self-efficacy and community and further education;
  • be able to compare and contrast various LLND teaching and learning practices, from traditional approaches to innovative approaches and technologies, and discuss how these may best suit a given context; and
  • be able to develop and defend a language, literacy, numeracy and/or digital literacy approach for a particular context.

  • Current LLND practice - where can it be situated
  • Current LLND practice - what purposes
  • LLND teaching and learning practices in the twenty-first century
