This subject focuses on the principles and practices of the profession of teaching and the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, and their relationship and alignment with the CSU Graduate Learning Outcomes (GLOs). The subject provides students with the opportunity to critically engage with key ideas about the CSU GLOs in the context of the profession of teaching, responding to key curriculum priorities, and how teaching knowledge and skill develops with professional practice and reflection.
Students have opportunities to identify and examine a range of evidence-based teaching and learning strategies employed in teaching school students, and review how, when, where and why selected teaching and learning strategies are implemented in teaching contexts. Students develop and evaluate core teaching and learning strategies in relation to developing key literacy and numeracy skills in a learning activities sequence, and align these to the specificities of the classroom context and their teaching area.
This subject provides a platform for students to build upon as they develop and extend their knowledge and skills in the profession of teaching over the remainder of their teacher education course. While this subject engages with all of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, it specifically contributes toward the achievement of: 1.1, 2.1, 2.2, 2.5, 2.6, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 7.3 and 7.4, at the graduate level.
