This subject aims to enhance student understanding of current research and practice in applied sport and exercise psychology so that it can be used in their chosen future career area. It introduces students to a range of psychological interventions currently being used by 'mental' coaches and sport psychologists to improve the performance, satisfaction and personal growth of athletes and exercise participants, including goal setting, relaxation and energising techniques, imagery, mental rehearsal, self-talk, and concentration control. This subject also enables students to apply ethical decision making and reasoning to identify creative solutions to problems, reflect on their personal capabilities in their chosen career area and develop skills of self-directed learning that will extend beyond their life as a student.
