EHR525 Exercise for Neurological and Mental Health Conditions (8)

In Australia, almost one in two people will experience a neurological or mental health condition in their lifetime. This subject will use online lectures, case study tutorials, group work activities and a Residential School to develop the knowledge, skills and practical competencies required by Exercise Physiologists to work safely and effectively with clients with neurological and mental health conditions. Emphasis is placed on developing knowledge and comprehension of functional neuroanatomy, neurological pathophysiology, including aetiology and risk factors, cognitive decline, motor dysfunction, diagnostic procedures, treatments and applications for exercise prescription for primary, secondary and tertiary prevention in clients with neurological and mental health conditions. After completing this subject, students will be able to conduct effective initial consultations and design and deliver safe and effective lifestyle and exercise interventions to enhance physical fitness, health and wellbeing in clients at risk of developing, or with existing, neurological and mental health conditions and evaluate client outcomes.
