This subject examines Year 11 and Year 12 NSW science syllabuses and the Australian Curriculum. A major focus of the subject is on planning teaching and learning sequences for Stage 6 science that will provide learners with opportunities to develop science understandings through the application of Working Scientifically skills and inquiry questions. A range of strategies for teaching and assessing senior science subjects are considered including critical scientific thinking, problem-solving techniques, and the planning, conducting and communicating results of investigations. Strategies for differentiating teaching, learning and assessment to meet the diverse needs of students in Stage 6 science and to embed the cross-curricular priorities and general capabilities are explored. The use of digital resources and tools, including the selection of appropriate digital content, to complement teaching strategies, enhance learning sequences and lesson plans, and to meet curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements in Stage 6 science is also included. The subject builds upon the first curriculum method subject and a deep understanding of the discipline content in one or more areas of science (biology, chemistry, physics, earth and environmental science) is assumed.
